My Story
Hi! I’m Julie Lind. I’m a piano teacher, composer, arranger, YouTuber, and the creator of Piano Song Download. For more than 30 years I’ve had the joy of teaching students how to play the piano.
How did Piano Song Download begin?
I created Piano Song Download in 2011 because I wanted students, teachers, and pianists to have easy access to quality sheet music and learning resources. Over the years the site has grown into a large collection of free sheet music, lead sheets, tutorials, original compositions, and educational materials used by visitors around the world.
My Piano Teacher is a YouTuber?
I started my PianoSongDownload YouTube channel in 2011 to help beginning pianists learn how to play beginning piano songs. Each video has colored bars that come down the screen to show viewers which key to play. I was surprised when my number of subscribers and views started to grow. During the pandemic, my channel really took off. YouTube awarded me a Silver Award for having over 100,000 subscribers. I currently have over 97 million views! What started as a simple way to teach piano has turned into a great way to introduce people to playing the piano. I love when my piano students notice my plaque on the wall and say, “Wait, you have a YouTube Silver Award?”
My Music
I wanted to be a composer ever since I was 8 years old. When a Paul A. Schmitt upright piano was delivered to my house I was thrilled! I made an agreement with my mom; if I practiced piano I could get out of drying the supper dishes. What a deal! What my parents didn’t realize was that I had a special gift. I could create music that sounded like I was practicing. While my poor sister was stuck doing the dishes, I was in my glory playing my new musical creations. I also become an excellent sightreader so I could fool my piano teacher into thinking I had practiced all week (as a piano teacher I now know I wasn’t fooling her at all 🤣).
In high school my church asked me to be their substitute pianist. I didn’t have access to hymn arrangement books, so I started creating my own hymn arrangements. That began my love of arranging hymns. My faith continues to inspire many of my hymn arrangements, and I love creating hymn arrangements that encourages worship and brings comfort and hope to others.
When I was young, I didn’t believe I could ever become a composer. Then a wonderful thing began, self-publishing! What seemed like an impossible dream has finally come true. I am a composer! Just saying that makes my heart sing with joy!
